Travelling when you’re in the early stages of recovery can be particularly scary as you run into triggers left right and centre – especially when in a new environment. You can also forget the importance of recovery while in a new place. However never fear as there is a solution for you.

There are thousands of 12 step meetings all over the world so wherever you are you can continue to be involved in a recovery. It can be difficult to leave your own group as you may have grown close to the people in the 12 steps group and you have overcome many obstacles forever, you need to locate 12 steps programmes wherever you go to in the world.

There are plenty of websites to check out online which can act as directories to people who are looking for AA meetings. You can also use online search engines and social media platforms to find them.

On the left hand side of AA’s official website there’s a search option to find meetings via location. This can be searched for using location, zip code and country. Following on from this you can search for a list of results of the location search. There will also be a list of meeting information.

A website mentalhealth.net/meeting-finder you can search for meetings by using zip codes or countries – they can be listed on whether they are AA, NA, GA or MA meetings along with other useful information that you will need to see to be able to attend.

 

If you have a friend who you’re going to visit then you can ask them for help in researching a suitable location for you. Remember that addiction strikes all kinds of people from all over the world and therefore you will be able to find a support and 12 steps group no matter where you go in this wide world.
